"If the Fed can't bring inflation down to 2% without destroying the economy..." You have to destroy/excise the Ponzi elements of the economy in order to have stable prices and modest interest rates. There's no other way to do it. If you have to lower interest rates to save the economy; you're just pandering to the Ponzi elemnts of it. Debt accumulation is not productivity.

The disappointment with Trump is the swamp isn’t drained yet. Unfortunately the swamp includes both Democrats and Republicans. The whole system needs overhauled and to begin with no more lobbyists permitted. Secured borders and send them back across the border by the way they came in and increase penalties for coming back in. Stop exporting American oil. Stop allowing foreigner companies to buy property. 15% flat federal tax on income and capital gains. State tax on consumption and place ceilings on property taxes and college tuition. Colleges rob Peter to pay Paul.

JP Morgan is the only bank which would potentially benefit in a market crash. Any run on deposits would disproportionately end up with the big banks, and JP in particular. Therefore, you could look at it like they are the least trusted, because they WANT a crash, but in the other hand, all the other forecasters desperately dont want a crash and are likely biased the other way. Furthermore, jamie dimon is about to retire and like powell at the fed, men soon to retire think in terms of a legacy based in truth. Therefore, you see them doing and saying things that a younger man with more to lose would never say for political reasons...

Some might argue that index funds are still better than picking individual stocks for most. Yes, it creates a market driven by flows rather than fundamentals, which may lead to inflated valuations and potential instability, but given that between 70 and 90 percent of normal traders allegedly lose money in the long term, can you really fault the growing sentiment of those who simply want to put the market on autopilot?

Smart guy, but I keep hearing from generalists, without real world bank experience, opine on the health of the US banking system. There are many academics that believe CRE will break the banking system. I left the banking system about 18 months ago and I worked for large regional and national banks. Underwriting hurdles were much higher over the past 15 years and the banks are over reserved for any CRE issues. Will we have some failures? Of course, but this not 2008-09 in the banking sector.

It is very possible in the near future we may see a strong bifurcation of the financial system. The Hard Asset Inflation / Paper Asset Deflation Theory is based on the idea that wealthy individuals will begin to realize the fragility of the current financial system. When they do, they will shift their investment preferences to items of substance. This would be a game changer unleashing the inflation beast. The article below delves into this subject. brucewilds.blogspot.com/2023/09/the-hard-asset-inflation-paper-asset.html

Stock buybacks continue to add a new element of risk to the market. This should cause investors to consider, no matter how remote, the possibility we could at some point witness a flash crash so devastating that we see markets fall like they are on steroids. If such an event occurred the damage might be so severe that trading would be halted and traders trapped. These subjects intersect with other factors and events taking place over the years that have thwarted true price discovery. The widening disconnect between the financial sector and the real economy increases the risk of a major economic setback in the future. brucewilds.blogspot.com/2024/03/stock-buybacks-and-flash-crash-risk.html

Fantastic! Thanks again Julie for hosting another macro deep thinking thesis supported by charts..this time with excellent Michael Green (I follow on X +) My HUGE TAKEAWAY was market capitalization weighted Apple, ex-growth trend aka zero, 30X+ EPS juiced by material buybacks and without an innovative product released in 3 years. I totally understand an Apple one week 70% discount BID to PEG ratio fundamental when this OBESE BABY is thrown out with a deluge of bath water babies knowing "A dam spillway only allows a limited volume of Fair Value stocks to escape...Apple will lose a lot of weight in order to fit through the spillway"! ARK flow chart+ were very powerful illustrations of this realistic phenom! Interesting indeed! Thanks again!

I can confirm this thesis. Living at my parents with housing being unaffordable, been keeping my savings in bonds as a safe investment due to the narrative of a crash but decided to try my luck with gamestop (no real gains or losses), decided to invest long into nvidia and palantir because the gains were 10% per week.... Feels like sitting in bonds cash, i'm going to wake up in 2 years time to find all my savings are enough to buy a chocolate bar and/or having no money if a market crash actually happens...
